I often hear the biggest obstacle aspiring professionals are facing is learning how to confidently and effectively communicate with prospective buyers and clients. In a world that has accustomed us to primarily interact digitally, up and coming industry professionals are expressing a greater concern in their communication capabilities than ever before.
The good news - it’s simpler than you think. See below for a quick list of dos and don’ts to follow when communicating with clients:
Do:
Be personable – picking up on social cues and leading with a warm tone and demeanor will always go further than being “too professional”
Be factual – come prepared with a clear message and be confident in your knowledge/product
Be conversational – actively listen and turn your pitch into an engaging conversation
Don’t:
· Be timid – outwardly showing nervousness creates a sense of uncertainty
· Be misleading or deceptive – trying to overly impress will always be clear during client communications. Opt for genuine conversations versus trying to embody a fake persona.
What We’ve Learned
At the end of the day – clients, consumers, prospective buyers, and everyone in between are just people. While there may be an agenda or added pressure to close a deal at play, the key to effective communication will always be leading with genuine conversation - creating an intentional dialogue that allows engaging and productive conversations to follow.
